Individual therapy

Welcome to taking the first move towards intentional change. There are many reasons you might be here - to shift your relationship with anxious and intrusive thoughts, make meaning of painful experiences you have lived through, process relationship stressors, build coping skills and strategies, or work through other everyday life problems. Regardless of the reason, I am here to offer the support you are seeking or connect you to someone that can.

As a relational therapist, I believe the key to healing and change is through deepening connection: to yourself, the people in your life, your community, and the broader environment, structures and context that shape you. Our co-created space honors you as the expert in your life and centers self-compassion, unconditional positive regard, radical honesty, and alignment as foundational to healing and change. From this foundation, we will work together to develop insight into your familiar patterns and ways of being and to shift feelings, thoughts and behaviors that no longer serve you so that you can live the life you want.

I am not paneled with any HMO, Medicare or Medicaid plans.

  • Diagnoses are required by insurance companies to explain why services are medically necessary. This means that if you are using a health insurance plan to pay for services you will have to have a diagnosis. In our first session, we will discuss the symptoms you are experiencing and the diagnosis or diagnoses that your symptoms fall under. Transparency is the utmost important to me. I encourage you to ask questions throughout this process and I always have a copy of my DSM on hand so we can look through it together. I will never change a diagnosis without first talking to you.

The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM), is what is used by clinicians, and a variety of other professionals, to diagnose and treat mental health conditions. As with all tools, the DSM has its benefits and drawbacks.

For some, a diagnosis brings clarity, relief, and a greater understanding of self. For others, a diagnosis can be stigmatizing, oversimplified and oppressive. Often it is a mix of both. While the DSM can be a helpful guide in understanding ourselves and our responses to the world around us, it must also be acknowledged that most diagnoses in the DSM are a natural response to painful and/or traumatic experiences. The DSM has and continues to be used as an oppressive tool, disproportionately impacting the most vulnerable people in our communities.

What to expect

This can be a space that feels different from others in your life. From me, you can expect relational dialogue that is warm, direct, empathic and humorous. You will never be judged and no topic is off the table. Most importantly, as we work to name and address the problems in your life, we will make sure to acknowledge and celebrate your strengths and wins.

COACHING

Whether you are a new or seasoned professional, your interest in coaching demonstrates your dedication to growth. I believe that organizations thrive when leaders are committed to self-awareness and accountability and are in alignment with their values. Approaching from a place of curiosity, our coaching work will examine the values, assumptions and principles that inform your leadership practice so we can work together to ensure it is more inclusive and purpose-driven.

I have specific experience supporting white professionals who are committed to deepening their understanding of their own white identity as well as individual, institutional and cultural racism in order to actively work towards creating more inclusive, equitable and anti-racist environments within their teams and organizations.

Consultation & Facilitation Support

As a consultant and facilitator, I work to build the capacity of individuals, teams and organizations who are committed to the practice of equity and justice within their unique contexts. I envision teams, communities and relationships where everyone, regardless of identity or status, has access to the resources and support they need to thrive.

We will work together to build a shared understanding of your stated goals and the values that inform them before collaboratively deciding what types of services would be best for short and long-term growth and organizational change. The duration of our partnership is determined by the type and complexity of the work involved.

I have extensive experience working across a multitude of sectors including higher education, nonprofit, corporate, K-12 and  communication-based organizations.
